Hello Schuligans! I’m Manuel Valdez and I’m a candidate for GBC President. Born in the Dominican Republic I came to Schulich in order to complete the Business Sustainability program to be able to help business back home to move to a more sustainable path.
Having many different interests and a broad academic background I’ve had the opportunity to work in different sectors which have given me very valuable and unique experiences. After completing my Undergrad in Computer Science I worked with the Dominican government in the design and implementation of a nationwide used system that helps poor families to access education and health services and provides them with economic support. Upon completion of this project I had the opportunity to work for one of the top Dominican Universities designing their local computer platform.
After this I completed an MBA program and decided to move to a more corporate environment. While working in the largest local grocery retailer I accomplished one of my most fulfilling and challenging tasks: introducing environmental awareness and the importance of more sustainable practices to a Dominican Corporation.
My desire to help my country and the local businesses and my need for knowledge is what has placed me here, with all of you, in this wonderful journey that is the road to a Schulich MBA. For these reasons, I have set, as I’m sure all of you also have, very high expectations for our MBA program and for the time we are going to share.
But in the same way I have set these high expectations and also acknowledge that I have the obligation to offer nothing but my total commitment to Schulich and for this reason I am running to be your GBC President and I ask all of you for your support and participation in making our MBA class the best class Schulich has had and the one that makes a difference by taking our MBA program to an even higher level.
